Dr. Kimberly Barton Appointed Thomas Elementary School Principal

 

Carbondale, Ill.- On Thursday, February 27, 2025, the Carbondale Elementary School District #95 Board of Education unanimously approved the appointment of current Thomas School Assistant Principal Kimberly Barton as Thomas School's Principal for the 2025-2026 school year. Barton will finish this school year as Assistant Principal for Thomas School, with her new role as Principal beginning on July 1, 2025.

 

Barton began teaching in 2015 in her home state of Mississippi, where she taught 1st grade then moved to 2nd grade. While teaching in Mississippi, she became LETRS Trained, earned her master's degree in educational leadership, and began her doctoral degree in educational leadership with a focus on reading fluency in elementary students. 

 

In the summer of 2021, Barton relocated to Carbondale with her family to begin working in Carbondale Elementary School District #95. Kimberly Barton started her role as Thomas School Assistant Principal. Later, her husband began teaching P.E. at Carbondale Middle School. In her free time, Barton enjoys attending sporting events and spending time with her family. 

 

Barton earned the above-mentioned doctoral degree during her tenure as Thomas's Assistant Principal. Barton says," I work hard to pour into the students in our district by supporting them both inside and outside of the school. I am eager to continue building relationships with families and stakeholders and ensuring that Thomas Elementary continues to be a place that is both inclusive and inviting." She looks forward to starting her new role as Thomas Elementary School Principal next school year.
