Welcome to Carbondale Middle School

    Dr. Carmen Williams-Bonds

It is with pride, honor and excitement that I am a member of the CMS community. I am eagerly looking forward to building positive and authentic relationships with students, staff, parents and community partners.  This is going to be a great year for success and celebration.

Prior to my appointment within Carbondale Elementary School District, I served students as Teacher, Dean of Students, Assistant Principal, Associate Principal for Curriculum & Instruction and Building Principal, among other leadership positions.  For the past three years, I served as Principal at Thomas Elementary School.

I attribute my desire to be an educator to being a product of Carbondale school systems. I had phenomenal educators at Lewis School, Lincoln Middle School and CCHS.  Those educators expected stellar academic performance from their students. It is my desire to inspire the students of CMS in the same manner as my former teachers inspired me.

Additionally, I would like to encourage all families to designate a set time for your child to read.

    • Reading builds vocabulary, fluency and comprehension for rich thinking skills.
    • Reading builds confidence.
    • Reading improves writing skills.
    • Reading leads to better academic and life experiences.

Please join me as we team together to enjoy a productive and rewarding school year for your child and your family.

You may contact me by phone at (618) 457-2174 or email at cwilliams-bonds@ces95.org.

My teaching career started in 1995 in Cairo School District, where it lasted 20 years.   During my tenure in Cairo, I taught 3rd grade and 2nd and 3rd Transition,  was a 4th and 5th Reading Resource Teacher and taught 7th to 9th grade Reading/Language Arts.  I also served as Assistant Principal for two years and Principal for four years.  For one year, I taught 5th grade Reading in the Dallas Independent School District in Dallas, Texas.

This is my third year in Carbondale District 95.  I taught English/Language Arts at the Middle School and served as Assistant Principal at Parrish Elementary and, this year, I am very excited to serve as Assistant Principal at Carbondale Middle School.

I strongly believe that we as educators have to continually work to improve the education of our children, thus passing these work ethics to the children we teach and interact with daily.  Children have to be handled with care.  I strive to treat every child equally, provide a nurturing learning environment, make sure every child feels safe and secure at school and instill the love of learning in each child I encounter!

If you have any questions throughout the school year, please do not hesitate to contact me at (618) 528-9640 or via email at zmadison@ces95.org.

I am excited to be joining District 95 as the Dean of Students at Carbondale Middle School.  In my role, I have the privilege of supporting our 6th graders as they are navigating the new expectations of middle school.  On this next part of their educational journey, they will not only encounter high expectations academically, but socially as well.

We are here as a team to support your student.  I want to ensure that each student is challenged to reach his or her fullest potential and that each has the discipline and skills to reach future goals.  I am looking forward to a wonderful school year.  Please let me know if I can be of any assistance.  I can be contacted at bkensler@ces95.org or (618) 457-2174.
