Here is the text of the letter District #95 Supt. Daniel L. Booth sent to parents and the community today.
Friday, 17 April 2020
Dear Parents and Community Members:
I hope this message finds you and your family safe and well. As you may have heard, today Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker announced that remote learning will continue through the end of the 2019-2020 school year.
This announcement effectively means Carbondale Elementary School District #95 buildings will remain closed for the remainder of the year, an extremely unfortunate culmination of the unprecedented past four weeks. The last day of Remote Learning will be on Friday, May 22.
We are disappointed and just plain sad to have such an abrupt end to our in-person learning, or face-to-face interactions. However, as Gov. Pritzker said in today’s briefing, “We will get through this.” And we will. We are all maneuvering unchartered waters, but I have faith that we will all emerge better for this experience. As this announcement was just made this afternoon, we need time to digest what this means for District #95. More details are to come about the end of the year, including our 8th Grade Promotion, and whether summer school programming will be available.
We are thankful that District #95 already has plans in place to help guide us through the rest of this school year, namely our Remote Learning Plan and our “Grab & Go” meal-distribution system that supplies six days’ worth of meals to those 18 and younger who need it.
In this vein, please note that your child’s 5th and 6th Enrichment Packets have been mailed home and should arrive by Monday. If you have not received your child’s packet by then, please contact the classroom teacher or school principal for assistance.
As I shared in my last letter, I want to reiterate that your child’s teacher will be contacting you and your child at least once a week. These weekly contacts are essential, as your child’s teacher will decide whether he/she receives a “Pass” or “Incomplete” for this fourth quarter. The teacher will give the student a grade of “Pass” (if the teacher can verify that your child has been progressing on the packet) or “Incomplete” (if the teacher is unable to verify that progress).
For this reason, please answer the call or email from your child’s teacher or return the call or answer the email at your earliest opportunity. If you have not received a call or other contact by the end of each week, please initiate contact with your child’s teacher.
Here are some other reminders:
-
Meal Pickup is 7:30 a.m. to 12 noon Monday, Wednesday and Friday at Thomas and CMS.
-
Bus Meal Delivery is 9 a.m. to 12 noon, also on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Thank you for supporting our work by encouraging your child to work daily on the Enrichment Packets and to read daily.
Sincerely,
Daniel L. Booth
Superintendent of Schools
Carbondale Elementary School District #95
