Supplemental Education Services

FAQ's About SES

As a result of the federal No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB), your child may benefit from additional help in math, reading, and language arts.  This free tutoring is offered because your child's school is in its second year or later of school improvement (school has not made adequate yearly progress on state tests for at least three years), and your family meets the income limits under the law.

What does SES stand for?  What does it mean?
SES stands for Supplemental Educational Services.  SES is extra help provided through the school district to help your child improve academically in school.  There are many different providers that may choose to participate in SES.

How will I know which tutor to choose?
District #95 will host a provider's fair in the fall.  Parents will get a first hand look at what each participating provider has to offer and which program best fits their child.
You may also check out the providers on our website.

Where do Supplemental Educational Services take place?
Depending on the provider, the services may take place at school, on-line, or at a community center.

When do services begin?
Once student eligibility has been determined, a provider has been chosen and all paperwork has been completed, the provider will contact you and a schedule will be set.
Tutoring sessions are held after school.

How do I know if my child will qualify?
Not every child is eligible for SES.  Under federal law, only low-income students who have an approved application for free and reduced lunch are considered eligible for SES.
You will receive a mailing from the district if your child fits these guidelines.  You should also check the district website for additional information. Once your child has qualified you will be contacted so that tutoring services can begin.

How will my child get to and from tutoring?
The school district does NOT provide transportation for SES.  You will need to arrange for transportation.
